Ambitious Gujarat defeated powerful Elites to win the Premiere Division title
Elites failed to carry their regular season form in the final championship match as Gujarat CC beat Elites CC by 53 runs. A decent total of 263 runs were sufficient for Gujarat to ensure them ?Premiere Division Champions title for 08 season.
Day started by Elites winning the toss and elect to field ? a decision horribly went against them. Gujarat batting first had a good start as they reached 100 mark in just 17 overs. Although outstanding fielding of Elites undone Nilesh (run out) earlier in the match but they failed to capitalize on it. Big hitting by Sampath (38 runs) and quick 35 runs by Amit set a good platform for Gujarat. Damien?s match winning 50 and Harish decent support in middle order further strengthened their total. Gavin and Kamlesh in the end made sure that they reach safe havens by putting massive 263 total on board.
Elites started innings in their trademark fashion with quick boundaries. But Sampath fierce bowling gave break through by taking wickets of Salman and Kaizer. As Elites started to loose their quick wickets, Ahzum and Nikhil came for their rescue. They had a good solid partnership in the middle. At one point it seemed like both batsman would bring the match home but Nilesh and Harshad strike back strongly for Gujarat. Tight bowling of Damien in the middle also played vital role to restrict strong Elites batting line up. Intelligent bowling of Gujarat restricted Elites to 210 (all out). Harshad took 4 wickets. Elites who finished first place in the league?s premiere division fought well but just did not extended themselves to their full capabilities. This was a demoralizing defeat for Elites, who will do well to lift themselves for the T20 Finals next week against same rivals. And certainly it was a well deserving victory for Gujarat who defeated Millwoods A (last year's champions) in semis and marched on to win final against powerful Elites.
